Article 2 - Permanent Officers and Employees

Enacted by Stats. 1943, Ch. 134.

The officers and employees of the Senate are:

(a)A President.
(b)A President pro tempore, one secretary, one Sergeant-at-Arms, one minute clerk and one chaplain.
(c)Other officers and employees deemed necessary by the Senate and provided for by resolution of the Senate.

Officers and employees in subdivision (b) shall be elected by a majority vote of the duly elected and qualified members of the Senate.

The officers and employees of the Assembly are:

(a)A Speaker, a Speaker pro Tempore, a Majority Floor Leader, a Minority Floor Leader, one Chief Clerk, one Sergeant at Arms, one Minute Clerk and one Chaplain.
(b)Other officers and employees deemed necessary by the Assembly and provided for by resolution of the Assembly.

Officers and employees in subdivision (a) except the Majority and Minority Floor Leaders and Minute Clerk shall be elected by a majority vote of the duly elected and qualified Members of the Assembly. The Minute Clerk shall be appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the Chief Clerk, subject to approval by the Assembly Rules Committee.

All permanent officers and employees of the Senate or Assembly, except the President of the Senate and the Majority and Minority Floor Leaders and Minute Clerk of the Assembly, shall be elected by the house to which they are attached.

Any officer or employee appointed or elected by the Senate or Assembly may at any time be removed in the same manner as is provided for his election or appointment.
