There is and shall continue to be within the State an institution for the punishment, treatment, supervision, custody and care of females convicted of felonies to be known as “The California Institution for Women.”

There is and shall continue to be within the State an institution for the punishment, treatment, supervision, custody and care of females convicted of felonies to be known as “The California Institution for Women.”

The purpose of said institution shall be to provide custody, care, protection, industrial, vocational, and other training, and reformatory help, for women confined therein.

As used in the sections of this Part 3 of the Penal Code providing for penal offenses and punishments therefor, the term “State prison” or “prison” shall refer to and include the California Institution for Women.
