The unit designated as the Madera Canal consists of a canal or conduit leading from the reservoir of Friant Dam northerly to a point on the Chowchilla River.

The Madera Canal shall be of such capacity as the department determines to be necessary to furnish an adequate supply of water for beneficial purposes in the area to be served by it.
